The challenge was to increase the survival odds when breeding and growing commercial quantities of mussels for market harvest. Wild spat was in short supply, but SPATnz’s hatchery now has guaranteed monthly spawning of around three billion mussel embryos. After nurturing they are transferred to the sea hatcheries. Pipi Mā have created four plush dolls that speak and sing in Te Reo Māori. The dolls come with bilingual language learning cards and cover pre-schooler basics like colours and learning to count. The packaging of the Pipi Mā range of dolls reflects Māori heritage with a wharenui box design and Te Reo Māori instructions.
